400+ Dropshipping Niche Ideas 2023 – HUGE List!!

Deciding on your niche will be one of the first decisions you make, and (no pressure) one of the most important! The niche you pick now, can make your life much easier and much more lucrative down the track.

Now the important question is what constitutes a good dropshipping niche? The answer is obvious, the one that makes you the most money! Does this mean you just pick the niche that makes the most money? HELL NO. If you decide to pick a broad profitable niche such as fashion, sports, outdoors or fitness, you’ll be up against the biggest eCommerce stores in the world. Good luck with that!

But what is the right niche for you?

The right niche for you will be different for everyone depending on your personality, your goals and where you’re dropshipping too.

Personality

If you have a passion for a specific niche, it may be a great option to create a niche store based on your passion. You’ll enjoy the whole process far more which means you’ll stay more motivated. Remaining motivated can be a huge problem for many dropshippers.

You will be able to create a much better store based on your niche if you’re interested in it. It’ll be themed and branded right, your product descriptions will be more persuasive and you can create a blog to help create a real community around your niche.

Your Goals

How big of a store do you want to create? Do you want to create a small niche store with a dozen products or do you want to create a large broad niche store with thousands of products? This will differ for everyone and there are pros and cons to both.

For example, you may enjoy camping and decide you want a niche store based on camping. This is extremely broad and there is a tonne of sub-niches in the camping niche that may be a better option for a beginner.

Location

Where do you plan to dropship to? If you plan on dropshipping worldwide, you may be able to choose a very specific niche and still have a large enough market to sell to. If you live in a small country and only plan to dropship domestically, you will need to broaden your niche for it to be profitable.

Common Niche Dropshipping Questions

Best Dropshipping Niches for Beginners?

As a beginner to dropshipping, you should pick a niche with the least amount of potential problems which could arise as possible. This means choosing a niche with products that are simple to use, not easily broken, limited variants and which require minimal customer service.

Some niches to consider if you’re a beginner at dropshipping:

  • Baby Products
  • Hiking
  • Fishing
  • Print on Demand Clothing
  • Kids Educational Toys
  • Pet Clothing
  • Crafts
  • Kitchen Gadgets
  • Automotive Accessories

Best AliExpress Dropshipping Niches?

If you are dropshipping from AliExpress, you should decide on a niche that has products with some real wow factor. Consumers are far more likely to wait for the long shipping times from China if the products are unique and not easily accessible from their location.

A few niches to consider if you’re dropshipping from AliExpress:

  • Pet Urns and Caskets
  • Survival
  • Drones
  • Portable Solar products
  • Chess
  • Home Decor
  • Kids Costumes
  • Camping Accessories
  • Yoga
  • Security Cameras

Best High Ticket Dropshipping Niches?

The best high ticket niches should include high quality products that can be sourced domestically for fast shipping. The ideal product price is between $200 and $1,000 as this price point makes it more feasible for suppliers to dropship and high enough to have consumers trust the purchase is legitimate.

If you’re considering high ticket dropshipping as an option, here are a few niche options:

  • Beekeeping
  • Home Brewing
  • Motorhome Covers
  • Ergonomic Dog Beds
  • Bow Hunting
  • Prepping
  • Unique Furniture
  • Strollers / Prams
  • Fitness
  • Metal Detecting

How to Choose a Dropshipping Niche?

As a general rule, the best dropshipping niche should have a good balance of audience size and low enough competition to make it a viable business. This is done by checking the quality and quantity of paid ads in your niche and the monthly search results for the location you’re dropshipping to.

Whilst the right niche for you will be different from someone else, there are definitely some niches that are much better choices than others. Below I have given some advice on the potential pitfalls to look out for. Although some of these pitfalls are not deal breakers, they are something to be aware of so you don’t make the same mistakes as many others.

Size and Weight

If you’re dropshipping from China, I would avoid dropshipping any products that are large or heavy. It’s just not worth it. They use volumetric weight shipping which can end up costing you a fortune and eating away at your profits.

Volumetric vs Actual Weight EXPLAINED! - Shipping and Sourcing

You may have heard you should avoid dropshipping large and heavy products altogether, this isn’t always true.

If you’re dropshipping higher ticket products using domestic suppliers, it can actually be a great option if the margins make sense. Many large items are not always as easily accessible in retail shops and online, making them far less competitive.

It’s only really feasible in countries where shipping prices are reasonable. Using a freight broker will be your best option for finding the lowest possible shipping prices for larger products.

Fragile

Not essential but if you can avoid dropshipping fragile products, it’ll save you dealing with more returns and refunds. If you are dropshipping fragile products, make sure you have a good, reliable supplier who will package the products correctly.

If you’re dropshipping from China, I’d recommend using CJ Dropshipping if you want reliable suppliers as it can be difficult navigating the huge sea of good and bad suppliers on AliExpress.

Generic

If you can buy the same product from your local shopping mall, then it’s probably not a good idea to dropship it. You can sell the same type of product, but the variant you sell should be different to what you can find at your local shop.

For example, check out the 2 lamps below and how different they are. Lamps are very common and are in most households. They can be purchased at any shopping mall, however, if you tried to sell the lamp on the left using Facebook ads, you’ll go broke. It doesn’t stand out and has no specific audience to target for advertising.

The lamp on the right is very unique and is far more likely to get someone to stop scrolling through their Facebook feeds. You have the ability to advertise to those passionate about space / aircrafts, especially parents who have children interested in space. As well as this, people are far more likely to wait for the long shipping times for unique products they can’t find elsewhere.

To help avoid selling boring generic products I have an article of 40 unique products that I believe will stand out from the crowd.

Saturation

Ideally, you want to dropship niches that aren’t saturated, however, that’s not always possible. The best way to see the type of competition you’ll be up against is to check out how many ads are running on Google and Facebook and visit the eCommerce stores on the first page of Google.

If you want to reduce the chances of selling saturated products, check out my article on how you can tell if a product is saturated.

Trademark & Copyright

This is a big one if you’re dropshipping from AliExpress. Trademark and Copyright products are all over AliExpress and although these products are legal to buy, they are not legal to resell in most countries. If you are caught reselling these items, you may be sued and liable for all the money you have profited.

Audience

I personally don’t dropship products that don’t have a hungry and very specific audience of buyers. Whether this is a problem-solving product or a product that people have a real passion for. Having a specific group of people who are interested in your product makes advertising much easier and generally high converting.

Trending

You obviously want to sell products that are trending, however, you will want to avoid short trends that die off quickly. You want products people will need for years to come if you want to build a long-term and sustainable business.

Your best option to check out which products or niches are short-term and which are more evergreen is to use Google Trends.

For example, below is 2 different product’s worldwide search interest over the past 5 years. The blender on the left is a standard household product with a consistent amount of interest, and the fidget spinner on the right is an extreme example of a short trend that died in popularity as quickly as it grew.

Okay, I’ll stop rambling on and get to the reason why you’re here, the niche list! I’ve tried to include a variety of different types of niches depending on the type of dropshipping you plan to do. Some niches are high ticket and some low ticket, some are very specific niches, whilst some are broad and may have many sub-niches for you to branch off of. Enjoy!

Table listing the pros and cons to various niches for dropshipping

Summary

I still remember when I first got into dropshipping and the amount of time I took to decide on a niche. It became an obsession and literally took over a month to finally pull the trigger. For that month my life had a single purpose “Find the perfect niche!” Eventually, I realized there is no perfect niche.

Deciding on the right niche is an important decision, however, if you get it wrong it’s not a huge deal. With dropshipping, you always have the ability to try again for minimal time and money. Checking out Amazon’s high-selling categories will generally give you an accurate view of what is currently trending.

A much worse outcome is to get so indecisive you don’t pick any niche at all. At least with trying and failing, you gain knowledge and experience for your next attempt.
