I’ve heard there’s no such thing as the right dropshipping product and it’s all about how you market the product, I’ve also heard the right product will sell itself, personally, I think you need both.
All the aspects of your dropshipping business need to be dialed in and need to align with each other. The perfect product with poor advertising, the wrong target audience, a cheap looking website and poor product pages won’t make sales. The same goes with getting a standard product you can pick up from most shops that don’t solve a problem or people aren’t passionate about, it doesn’t matter how you market it, it just won’t sell.
In other words, the products you choose to dropship are important, so take some time and do your research before choosing which products you want to build a business around. Take this step as seriously as you would all the other steps in your dropshipping business.
Below is a list of products I believe still have the potential to make be profitable. You may have already read a few product lists to find some dropshipping product ideas. Many lists will tell you to jump on hot trends but this isn’t always a great idea as some trends are short fads that everyone jumps on.
My criteria is to find dropshipping products with a more sustainable business model. I recommend you read through the criteria before searching through the product ideas as you will actually gain more knowledge for your product research. This way you will have some tools to help you to know what to look for and what to avoid when searching for your own products.
Dropshipping Criteria
Passion/Problem
Each product I consider for dropshipping must either have a passionate hungry audience or must solve a problem or ideally both. These products are much easier to convince the customer to make a purchase and people are happy to part with their hard earned money. If a product is just “nice to have” it’s much harder to convince people to buy it.
Giving people a compelling reason to make a purchase will greatly increase conversions. If you put the right ad in front of the right person with an irresistible offer, it’s easy money. Remember you don’t want your customers to feel as though you’re selling them a product, you want them to feel as though you’re selling them solutions to their problems and benefits to their lives.

Currently Selling
This may sound counter-intuitive for a beginner, I mean why sell a product that’s already selling when I can sell a product that’s not selling with no competition. The odds of you being the first one to find an ideal dropshipping product in the world is extremely small. Even if by some miracle you did find a hot product with zero competition, everyone would see that there is a rising order count on AliExpress and they would also start selling the same product.
If you find products that are already selling with paid ads, this makes your job easier as your competitors have already done the hard work for you. It means you know there is demand and you don’t have to do a bunch of product research and testing to know if it’s a viable dropshipping product.
You’re far better off checking to see if the product you want to sell is currently selling with paid ads and then improving on your competitors or differentiating yourself from your competitors. There are 7 billion potential customers to share around so a few competitors are no big deal.
Shipping
This isn’t essential but definitely preferred. Small lightweight products are much cheaper to ship and much less complex. Generally, items on AliExpress are lower cost and it just wouldn’t make sense to pay extra for shipping unless it is an expensive product and the margins are worthwhile.
Breakability Factor
Another factor that isn’t essential but preferred. Simple products will make your life much easier in terms of returns and customer service. Complex products with moving parts are more likely to break during shipping and by customers wanting. This will result in more refunds and you’ll have to absorb that cost.
When it comes to electrical products it can be risky in terms of quality on AliExpress. I would never dropship electronic products unless they have real potential, are relatively simple, I purchase the product myself beforehand and test it out and it’s from a reputable supplier.
Margins
A general rule for most dropshippers purchasing products from AliExpress is to sell the product for around 3 times the purchase price. I would agree with this for most products priced from $5 to $50. I’d want it to be much higher for products under $5 and expect it lower for higher ticket items. I wouldn’t sell a $1 product for $3 I’d sell it for a minimum of $12 and higher priced products you may not get away with charging 3 times the product price.
When you consider the shipping costs, advertising costs, VA costs(if applicable) and refunds you need to make sure the margins are adequate enough for you to make a well-earned income.
Evergreen
If you are only interested in making quick money then you can forget about this. Personally, I want to try to avoid fads and want to sell products that will have demand in years to come and will continually make money for the long term.
Google Trends
Google trends are a great way of seeing interest in a product or topic over a period of time. Below I have added Google trends for each product over the past 5 years.
Many people can misinterpret these trends and assume because there isn’t a sudden spike it’s not trending and therefore disregard a product. Trending is good but a sudden spike can mean it’s more of a fad.
Most people think if a product has a history of interest and then it’s a bit flat for a while means the product is burnt out. To me, that means people have validated the fact it’s a sought after product and now the market isn’t as saturated and I can swoop in and market it a different way to a different audience.
There are many ways to interpret Google trends but a history of consistent sales is a good sign.
Monthly Searches
I’ve added monthly search results for each product but remember there are various related keywords that people may search for so the number may be higher for some products. It’s always worth doing your own keyword research to find demand for your product. I use keysearch.co which is around reasonably low priced at $17 a month but there is ubersuggest which will give you 3 free searches a day. Google keyword tool now only provides you with ranges of monthly search results so it’s not really that helpful anymore.

There are various ways to tackle a product like this. You can market it as a way to help one of the potential health issues and you can target a variety of different audiences who are facing those issues.

As a marketer you really need to push all the health benefits of a good quality bed such as it will reduce joint pain, muscle stiffness, better blood flow and quality sleep.

There are many different types of resistance bands and audiences to target with advertising. Stay at home moms who don’t have opportunities to go to the gym and want to shed a few extra pounds maybe your best bet.

Others require a liquid to be placed on the teeth and I would be researching every ingredient in them to make sure they are safe before I sold them to people.
Any product that solves the problem of making someone look better is always a profitable route to go down. If you could find a great product from a reputable supplier, this would be a great product to purchase in bulk and build a brand around.
